What's New at Your Library

March in the Star Wars Reads Light Saber Brigade

Star Wars enthusiasts of all ages are invited to dress in your favorite Star Wars Costume  (or not) and join the Library as we march down Lockport Street in the 2014 Homecoming Parade on Saturday, October 4.  The first 50 children (ages 3 to 12) to sign up and participate in the parade will receive a glowing light saber. Help us pass out info about Star Wars Reads Day which starts at 1:00 pm on the same day at the Library.

The Library will be closed for the first half of the day on Saturday, October 4 due to the Homecoming parade route. It will open at 1 p.m. for Star Wars Reads Day and for regular Library use. The Library will close at 5 p.m.

Celebrate Star Wars Reads Day Oct. 4

The Library will celebrate Star Wars Reads Day with games, crafts, a Jedi Training Obstacle Course, a gaming demo, a photo booth, a Tattooine Trivia Wheel, a chance to meet Darth Vader, and more on Saturday, October 4 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The community is encouraged to come dressed as their favorite Star Wars character.

In addition to the activities, middle school students, high school students, and adults are encouraged to enter a Star Wars art contest, to be judged by a surprise guest. Participants are asked to create anything from the Star Wars series, and turn in their designs to the Youth Services Desk, located in the lower level of the Library, no later than October 1 at 9 p.m.

Museum Adventure Passes Now Available

Museum Adventure Passes are available now and continue through  2014. For more details, visit the website.  

  • Visit your home library to find out current pass availability. Check-Out Desk staff will be able to check on what is available, and also check out the passes.  Museum Adventure Passes must be checked out using your library card at your home library. Libraries have a limited number of passes for each participating organization, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Passes cannot be reserved or checked out online or on the phone.
  • One Museum Adventure Pass may be checked out per person, per loan period. The loan period is SEVEN DAYS, and will expire after the date printed on the pass.
  • Admission offers vary per museum. For some, two or four people may be admitted free per pass, or by carload. If admission is free, another special discount will be offered.Passes are for one-time use and are not transferable. Your name will be printed on the pass, and you may be asked to show identification at the museum. The museum will collect the pass when you visit.
  • Check the list of participating museums for details on each cultural destination. Find out what discoveries await you, get directions to the museum, and review each museum's pass entry offer, including any restrictions that may apply.
