Every Tuesday, bring your current project or get ideas from others who share the love of knitting or crocheting. No registration is needed, just drop-in between 1:00-2:30 pm. Beginners are welcome.

    Write a Novel in 30 Days at the Library and Celebrate NaNoWriMo!

    The Library invites local writers to participate in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) this November! NaNoWriMo begins November 1, when participants set a goal to write a novel, or 50,000 words, by 11:59 p.m. on November 30. With an average of 1,666 words per day, local writers are welcome to visit the Library for fun write-in events, NaNoWriMo games and a writing room. Writers are encouraged to sign up and track their progress by visiting

    Food For Fines November 30-December 7

    Library cardholders can exchange food for their Library fines between Monday, November 30 and Monday, December 7 this year. For each non-perishable food item brought in, people can erase $1.00 of the Library fines (up to $10). All food items will benefit the Interfaith Food Pantry. Open or expired packages will not be accepted. This promotion does not apply for fees on lost or damaged books.

    Holiday Lights Recycling

    The Library is partnering for the fourth year in a row with Elgin Recycling to offer holiday lights recycling! The Holiday Lights recycling bins are located in front of the Library next to the book returns for your convenience. You can donate at any time, not just during the Library's open hours. Please do not leave lights in front of the building or in the book returns. Collection continues through February 22.

    Gift Box Giveaway

    Planning on giving a friend or loved one an eReader or tablet this holiday season? Let the Library help you wrap it up with a complimentary gift box or bag. FREE gift boxes include tissue paper, gift tags and instructions to help get started with the Library’s free eBooks, streaming music and more.     Stuffed Animal Collection for Kids in Hospital

    The Library is a drop-off site for the Caley Trepac Stuffed Animal Collection for sick kids. Caley has been collecting NEW stuffed animals to be given to children who will be spending the holidays in Rush Hospital and Stroger Hospital. The collection bin is located on the lower level in Youth Services tuntil November 30.
