Resources for Job Seekers

The Library offers a variety of resources to assist jobseekers. Events are free and all are welcome unless otherwise noted.

Monthly Job Club meeting

On the third Wednesday, Noon to 1:30 PM, attend a presentation on a career-related topic and network with local job seekers in a friendly and helpful atmosphere. Bring your lunch, dessert is on us. Click on a topic to register through the events calendar.

Job Club blog

Mobile Workforce Center

Workforce Services Division of Will County will bring the Mobile Workforce Center to the Route 59 parking lot behind the Library every Wednesday, 9:30 AM to Noon and 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM. The Mobile Workforce Center is a state of the art computer lab that travels to communities throughout Will County. Job seekers can choose from the following services:

Illinois workNet partner

The Library is a partner site for Illinois workNet, a free resource that provides career, education, and work support information for Illinois residents and businesses. A Library staff member is a Certified Illinois workNet Advisor and can assist with navigating the site. http://www.illinoisworknet.com

Online Resources

The Library has provided access to online resources for job seekers that may be accessed from home with a Plainfield Public Library card.

Learning Express Learning Express Library offers career test prep and guidance for writing resumes and interviewing.  Also included are computer basics and popular software tutorials. Users must create a free account and password to use this resource. 
HelpNow HelpNow offers tips for resume writing as well as resume review.  Chat live with a tutor daily between 2:00 PM and 11:00 PM or create an account to upload your resume for review.
Use Demographics Now: Business & People to research businesses.  Either look up information about a specific business or create lists of businesses in certain industries and zip code areas.

Computer Classes

The Library also offers a variety of computer classes to learn basic skills or Microsoft Office 2007 software. Visit the events calendar for upcoming dates and times.

Other Services

Other services include access to the internet and Microsoft Office 2007 software on our public computers, wireless internet throughout the library, printing in black & white or color, photocopying in black & white or color, and a self service fax machine.
