    What's New at Your Library

    New Year's Holiday Closings

    The Library will be closed for the New Year's holiday on Wednesday, December 31 and Thursday, January 1, 2015. The Library re-opens on Friday, January 2, at 9:00 am for regular hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

    Holiday Lights Recycling

    The Library is partnering for the third year in a row with Elgin Recycling to offer holiday lights recycling! The Holiday Lights recycling bins are located in the Library's Route 59 parking lot next to the paper recycling bins for your convenience. You can donate at any time, not just during the Library's open hours. Please do not leave lights in front of the building or in the book returns. Collection continues through February 22.

    Short Story Contest for Grades 3 to 5

    The Library is accepting entries for the Annual Short Story Contest for children in Grades 3, 4 and 5 through January 28. Click on More Info for a complete list of the rules and guidelines. On Saturday, Feburary 28 at 10:00 am, all short story contest entrants and their families are invited to a talk by contest judge, author Kevin Luthardt. Short story contest winners will be announced at the end of the program.

    Gear Up for Reading: Winter Reading 2015

    The Winter Reading Program is shifting gears and needs you to get those reading cogs spinning! Registration and festivities kick off on Sunday, January 11 between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m., where you can enter cool drawings available only to those who sign up that day. Don’t worry if you can’t make it on the 11th, you can still join in person or online through February 15. Over the course of this six-week program, simply record what you’ve read either online or via the form you receive at registration.

    Soon To Be Famous Illinois Author Project Deadline Extended

    The next Soon to be Famous Illinois Author project is seeking an Illinois author with a self-published adult fiction book that libraries can help to make “famous.” Last year's winner, Joanne Zienty, has spoken at dozens of Illinois libraries as well as given several interviews to big name newspapers, local radio stations, magazines and more.
