Social Stitch: Knitting and Crocheting Time
Every Tuesday  - Starting in September
1:00 PM

Every Tuesday, bring your current project or get ideas from others who share the love of knitting or crocheting. No registration is needed, just drop-in between 1:00-2:30 pm. Beginners are welcome.

    What's New at Your Library

    Library Closed from 9-1 During Homecoming Parade Oct. 1

    The Library will be closed from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 due to the Homecoming Parade, so if you're planning on stopping by, please plan ahead. The Library will open at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and close at its normal time, 5:00 p.m. We hope you enjoy the parade!

    Banned Books Week

    Banned Books Week, an annual event celebrating the freedom to read, is September 25 - October 1, and highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.

    Indie Author Day

    Saturday, October 8
    The first Indie Author Day is a national event where libraries all over the country host programs to support their local writing community.

    • Author Panel Q&A, 10:00 AM: Hear from traditional and self-published authors from the Plainfield area about their writing and publishing process. Register here.
    • Author Fair, 11:00 AM: Meet with more than 15 local authors who write fiction, children’s books, romance and more. Authors will sell and sign their books. Enter a drawing to win book gift baskets from these fantastic authors.No registration required.
    • Digital Gathering With Industry Leaders, 1:00 PM: Writers, authors and readers are invited to join an hour-long digital gathering featuring Q&A with writers, agents and other industry leaders. Learn more about the experts who will be featured on the digital presentation athttp://indieauthorday.com/blog/stream. The digital gathering will be streamed live at the Library, but you can also tune into the Indie Author Day YouTube channel to watch the live panel presentation. No registration required.

    It’s Your Last Chance to Register to Vote at the Library Oct. 10 and 11

    If you want to vote in the upcoming presidential election on Tuesday, Nov. 8, you must register to vote by this year’s deadline on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

    You can visit the Library any time before the deadline to register to vote, but the Library will host two special registration days on Monday, Oct. 10 and Tuesday, Oct. 11.

    If you have recently changed your name, address, political party, or have turned 18, you should re-register to vote.

    Reminder about Sunday Hours

    The Library will not be resuming regular hours on Sundays during the school year due to budget cuts. While you will no longer be able to access the building on Sundays, you can access the Library’s website at any time. With your Library card number, you can do all of the following:

    • Download eBooks and eAudiobooks from PinDigital and eRead IL
    • Download eMagazines via Flipster and Zinio
    • Stream or download music from Freegal
    • Investigate options for a new refrigerator via Consumer Reports online
    • Learn a new language or brush up on another language with Mango Languages
    • Explore free online tutoring for students from grade school through college via Brainfuse’s HelpNow service
    • Read a Tumblebook with your child
